Reading:

Students need to read weekly story from their reading book every night. Students are also expected to study their vocabulary words, spelling words and read their library AR book each night. Accelerated Reader is a big part of our reading program in Multi-age. Just like other things in life, anything that a person wants to be better at doing takes practice. To become a better reader, then practice reading every night.

Math:

We are using Eureka math this year. The way Eureka teaches us to do math is very different than other math curriculums we have used in the past. While it is important to learn math facts and know these facts fluently, Eureka teaches us different ways to think about math. Eureka teaches us different ways to find a correct answer and to be able to understand and explain why that is the answer. Eureka helps us understand how numbers and different math strategies work together. You can help your child with Math at home by working on addition and subtractions facts, tens and ones, putting a series of numbers in order from greatest to least and least to greatest. A great way to help your child at home is to go over their graded work when it comes home. Help your child to correct items that they answered incorrectly and understand why they missed the problem.
